Lesson Focus:
1. All the promises about the coming of Saviour were fulfilled when Jesus was born. This indicates that Jesus is not the same as any other baby, but He is the promised Saviour, the King of kings.
2. The wise men brought rich gifts, i.e. gold, frankincense, and myrrh to honour and worship Jesus. What can we give to worship our Lord? God will be happy if we offer Him our hearts. Let Jesus stay in our hearts and be the God of our lives.

Summary:

God has a plan to save His people by sending a Saviour. He told His plan through promises. All the promises about the coming of the Saviour were fulfilled when Jesus was born. Thus, Jesus is the promised Saviour.

When Jesus was born in Bethlehem, there was another sign, a special star appeared in the sky. The appearance of the special also fulfilled the promise of the Saviour. This special star was seen by a group of Magi, or the wise men, who study about stars and lived far away in the east. The Magi wanted to know more about the special star and they found out that the Star was the sign that a new King of Jews has been born.

Then, the Magi decided to find and visited the King. They prepared gifts for the newborn King. As this is a gift for the King, they brought 3 types of gifts – the most expensive and precious ones at that time. The gifts are Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh. After the preparations were ready, the Magi left for Jerusalem; as they thought the newborn King was supposed to be born in a palace.

When they arrived in Jerusalem, the magi asked king Herod, “Where is the newborn King of Jews? We have seen His Star in the east and have come from the east to worship Him”. King Herod summoned all the priests and the scribes (those who study Bible) of the Jews to find out about the birthplace of the promised King. The priests and the scribes told king Herod that the promised King will be born in Bethlehem as written in the Bible. Then, king Herod asked the magi to go to Bethlehem and return back to Jerusalem to tell him where the newborn King was; so that he might also go and worship Him.

The special star appeared again and moved. So, the Magi went and followed the star until it stopped over the place where Jesus was. They went into the house and met Mary with Jesus. They fell down and worshipped Jesus. Then, they offered the gifts, i.e. gold, frankincense and myrrh. Afterwards, the Magi went back to their home in the east through another way, they did not go back to king Herod, as they were warned not to go back there in their dream.
